Microscope Gayzing @ Company Drinks

projects

In collaboration with Company Drinks, we ran a session for LGBTQIAA+ folks in Dagenham to connect with some of the incredible microscopic beings who inhabit their local soils, compost piles, food, plants, pets, and bodies.

~57% of the cells and DNA in our bodies are made up of other organisms, for whom binary gender, nuclear family and heteronormativity are not the be all and end all. We explored what we can learn from these companion creatures about the queerness of "nature", and, as we are part of nature... about our own queerness.

We had a great time looking at soil samples through the microscope, nerding out, talking about what queer ecologies means to each of us, and writing to the creatures we met.
