Quick Build - A temporary compost toilet @ Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park

projects

As part of the Queer Ecologies artist residency at Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park in 2021, we built this simple and low cost compost toilet from recycled materials, helping to improve the accessibility of events and workshops taking place in the park.

All materials for the toilet were gathered from skips and alleyways in the local area, transported to the cemetery on a bike trailer and assembled in a day.

The toilet stood in a sheltered corner of the park throughout summer and autumn, facilitating many a happy pee and poo, offering a novel hangout spot for ladybirds and returning nutrients to the woodland soils.

Thanks to local toilet attendant CJ for finding the toilet, and Happy Endings for donating lots of the materials <3
